A continued commitment to research, development and commercialisation is a major focus for the Ampcontrol Group.
Our teams of highly qualified research engineers deliver new innovative products to meet the needs of each of our market sectors - vital in ensuring our customers always have access to the latest technologies and technical proficiency specific to their present and future needs.
Innovation is reflected across our Group in the identification of new spheres of business activity and development of solutions in areas such as power quality where we have provided solutions for energy efficiency in electrical energy distribution deferring the need for capital infrastructure enhancements; telecommunication advances such wireless communication for hazardous areas and mine lighting with our IS LED Lighting System, an innovative light-emitting diode mine lighting system that can not only potentially replace fluorescent lighting in hazardous mining environments but also operate as an intrinsically safe emergency lighting system operable in explosive environments.
Sustained research and development programs have also resulted in enhanced environmental monitoring solutions such as an integrated suite of low cost multifunctional modules to sort multiple gas environments. The development of compact, inert gas filled and water cooled transformers for use in explosive atmospheres, is a significant advance from flameproof units currently used around the world.
Another specialist activity which has evolved into world class technology for our company is the design and manufacture of high powered thyristor controlled rectiformers. Combining a transformer and rectifier in a single package (generally for metal refining and winning or chemical/ gas production) these units are designed to fulfil a specific role for retrofitting as a replacement into existing installations.
Our modular substation designs have also benefited greatly from significant engineering input ensuring widespread acceptance by end users, distribution and energy transmission networks alike. The modular concept has proven to be an ideal alternative to conventional techniques, by creating a medium to long term solution for new or augmented substations and switchyards, while still maintaining the integrity and benefits of the structural and electrical design. This design allows expansion without major supply interruption and provides improvements in regard to site selection, quicker design, construct and commissioning, OHS considerations and return on investment timeframes.
We have achieved industry prominence and excellence through innovative product development and an increased presence in research and development, complemented by a joint collaboration with the University of Newcastle in establishing ResTech Pty Ltd. Capitalising on the knowledge and creative thinking offered by ResTech also allows for new advanced technologies to be brought to market in a much shorter time.
ResTech is recognised as a Registered Research Agency Program (RRA) by the Department of Industry Tourism and Resources (AusIndustry), and in that capacity undertakes significant confidential consulting for third parties, while still providing independent services to the Ampcontrol Group.
We are dedicated and determined to make innovation the foundation on which our future is secured.
“We are still visionary in the things we want to do and that has been duplicated in every Ampcontrol Group operation around the world.” Peter Cockbain, Technical Director (Ampcontrol Group).
